Miracles Mentioned in the Quran

Powerful Miracles

Written by Nuraz

Salaam (WRWB). Say you have to do 3 assignments in a matter of 45 minutes. Your grades are at potential risk and will probably fall. You might think to yourself, “I’m never gonna make it.” But, somehow and somehow you manage to receive a 90 of the entire grade for the entire marking period, despite not expecting it. That’s exactly what a miracle is. A miracle by definition is a symbol of astonishment that goes against all explanations and is a source of divine power. Or in other words expect the unexpected.

Some examples of some miracles can be, Prophet Ibrahim (AS) surviving the fire, Prophet Yunus (AS) surviving the whale, or Prophet Musa (AS) turning his staff into a snake. It comes to no surprise that the Quran has some of its own miracles that are present on this day. The signs of miracles are not to just show off, they are to increase our faith in Allah (SWT).

That being said, let us go over some examples of Quran Miracles.

For me, there are two main types of miracles. Numerical vs Classic. So let’s go over the Classic miracles first. As I had mentioned of the examples above, the Quran talks about these miracles of the Prophet’s,

Some examples can be, Musa (AS) splitting the seas in half,

Meaning - Then We inspired Moses, “Strike with your staff the sea,” and it parted, and each portion was like a great towering mountain. (26:63)

The context behind this is that at the time, Fir’aun (The Pharaoh) had been treating the people of Bani Israel like trash. We are talking about something like captivity or slavery. So Musa (AS) was granted by Allah (SWT) to split the seas in half, to free these people and to destroy those corrupted.

Another example of a miracle can be when the journey of Isra wal Miraj took place during the time of the Prophet (PBUH), as Allah (SWT) mentions in the Quran,

Meaning - Exalted is He who took His Servant by night from al-Masjid al-Haram to al-Masjid al-Aqsa, whose surroundings We have blessed, to show him of Our signs. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Seeing. (17:1)

This proves the miracle of Isra Miraj, which in short is a miracle that represents the Prophet (PBUH)’s high and powerful status. And also to comfort him and show the divine power of Allah (SWT), in showing all of the 7 levels of Jannah. And is also the revelation of Salaah, the birthplace of the 5 daily prayers that we are obligated to do. Also the same 5 daily prayers for the 5 daily pillars.

Another example of a miracle mentioned in the Quran, is the people of the cave, mentioned in Surah Kahf.

Meaning - And they remained in their cave for three hundred years and exceeded by nine. (18:25)

This miracle goes to show Allah (SWT)’s power and will, as he guides whoever he wants. The same goes for the concept of misleading others. As these cave people had slept unharmed for 309 years by the power of Allah (SWT).

The final classic miracle that I will give you is in Surah Fil, where most people don’t realize but it is a miracle.

Meaning - And He sent against them birds in flocks. (105:3)

Meaning - Striking them with stones of hard clay. (105:4)

Meaning - And He made them like eaten straw. (105:5)

These ayats that I showed are none other than the year of the Elephant which is the same year that the Prophet (PBUH). When a powerful king by the name of Abraha tried to destroy the Kaaba. So he decided to make a powerful army, which at the time was so powerful where no human could stop this army. But with the power of Allah (SWT) this army was squashed by the pebbles thrown by the small birds (Ababeel). By that time, the Qurayesh had been pushed back to Mecca by the elephant fleet. As then the Ababeel would do its parts by throwing pebbles and stopping the army to the point where they were fleshed and completely skinned. Which proved yet another miracle, as the Kaaba was protected because of this.

Note that any miracle is of course very powerful, but some miracles that can get us truly fascinated are numerical miracles. I got this specific miracle from my good friend Elias’s khutbah. It was mind blowing when I first heard it.

As we know the Earth has more water than land, confirmed by modern science. The ratio being 71% water to 29% land. 71/29. Remember that ratio. The Quran mentions, “Barr” (Land) 13 times. Whilst the Quran also includes, “Bahr” (Sea/Ocean) 32 times.

So by doing math, just to prove this is a miracle, 13 + 32 = 45.

Water - 32/45 = 71.1%, rounded to 71%
Land - 13/45 = 28.9%, rounded to 29%

Which is a very interesting miracle. But there’s more.

Surah Hadid is the 57th Surah in the Quran. As we know there are 114 Surahs in the Quran. The literal meaning for Surah Hadid is “Iron.” As Iron is indeed made up in the Earth’s crust. Also the picture underneath shows a Crust-Earth map. Split it in half. A miracle in the Quran.

Another miracle is our units of. For example “day” (Yawm) is mentioned 365 times in the Quran, symbolizing a year. Whilst “days” the plural of day, (Ayyam) is mentioned 30 times, showing you the approximate number of days of the lunar month. And “month” (Shahr) is mentioned 12 times, representing 12 months in a year.

And ties onto solely numbers, our 5 daily prayers (Fajr, Zuhr, Asr, Maghrib, Isha), aren't mentioned by name in the Quran. But another word for Prayers (salawaat) is mentioned 5 times in the Quran.

Our 7 heavens is mentioned 7 times in the Quran, implying the 7 levels of heaven.

The man (Rijaal) is mentioned 24 times in the Quran. Which is the same amount as the woman (Imra’a), 24 times. Further implying that men and women are both equal.
Another pair of words that’s mentioned equally is Zakat (Charity) and Barakah (Blessing) Both mentioned 32 times in the Quran. Implying they both are tied to each other. With giving Zakat comes receiving blessings.

There are also poetic miracles in the Quran. With the literature aspect of it being quite astounding.

Surah Sajdah is the 32nd chapter in the Quran with 30 verses. The prostration verse in the surah is in ayat 15. The word “Sajdah” is the 186th word. The surah contains a total of 372 times. 372/186 = 2, 30/15 = 2. To put the icing in the cake, 1 + 8 + 6 = 15 which is the number of ayat and the word the ayat connected.

Another example is in Surah Nuh, the 71st chapter in the Quran. The word “Nuh” is first mentioned in Chapter 3 Verse 33 in the Quran. What makes that mind blowing is that the word “Nuh” can be divided into 3 letters.

Furthermore, Nuh (AS) is mentioned 43 times in the Quran, 71 minus its count of ayats (28), you get 43.. None, after Surah Nuh. Which 114-43 = 71, the Surah number of Nuh. It also is mentioned just 28 times, and the surahs that do not mention Nuh are 86, the 43 after and 43 before.

You take the ayat number and then you multiply it by the surah number, so 71 x 28 = 1988. The 1988th ayat in Surah 16 Ayat 87, you have 43 letters.

There are more miracles (both numerical and classic), but the whole point of showing miracles to you, is the showing of the power of Allah (SWT) and the revelation of the Quran. Showing you whilst the message is clear, this is further proof of some miracles in the Quran. As this book from the 7th century had no way to be proven at its time, especially with the scientific facts mentioned in the Quran. And the Quran itself wasn’t revealed to the Prophet (PBUH) by order. It was scrambled but to be then compiled by Sahabah. You get the point. The Quran is meant to be the final message and these miracles show you its authenticity in it. We should appreciate these miracles and use them to further increase our belief in Allah (SWT). Salaam (WRWB).
