احذروا العقاب غير المحسوس
Beware of the Unperceived Punishment
جاء رجل إلى الحسن البصري فقال له:
A man once came to Al-Hasan Al-Basri and said to him:
إني سمعت أن لكل معصية عقاب،
“I have heard that every sin has a punishment,
وإني عصيتُ الله كثيرًا ولم يُعاقبني؟”
yet I have disobeyed Allah greatly and He has not punished me?”
فقال له:
He replied:
يا بني، بل كم عاقبك الله وأنت لا تدري!
My son, rather how many times has Allah punished you while you are unaware!
فقال: كيف؟
The man asked, “How?”
قال:
He said:
ألم يسلبك حلاوة مناجاته؟
Has He not taken away from you the sweetness of conversing with Him?
ألم تمر عليك الأيام دون أن تقرأ القرآن؟
Have days not passed without you reading the Qur’an?
ألم تمر عليك الليالي الطوال وأنت محروم من القيام؟
Have long nights not gone by while you were deprived of standing in night prayer?
ألم يُمسك لسانك عن ذكره؟
Has He not restrained your tongue from His remembrance?
ألم يبتليك بحب المال والجاه والشهرة؟
Has He not tested you with love of wealth, status, and fame?
ألم تشعر بثقل الطاعات على قلبك؟
Do you not feel heaviness in your heart toward acts of obedience?
ألم تسهل عليك الغيبة والنميمة والكذب؟
Have backbiting, gossip, and lying not become easy for you?
ألم يُنسِكَ الآخرة وجعلَ الدنيا أكبر همك؟
Has He not made you forget the Hereafter and made this world your greatest concern?
ألم تمر عليك مواسم الخير:
رمضان، ست شوال، عشر ذي الحجة
ولم تُوفَّق إلى استغلالها كما ينبغي؟
Have seasons of goodness passed you by—
Ramadan, the six days of Shawwal, and the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah—
without you being granted success to benefit from them as you should?
إن أهون عقابٍ لله هو ما كان محسوسًا،
سواء كان في المال أو الولد أو الصحة،
The lightest punishment from Allah is that which is felt,
whether in wealth, children, or health.
وأن أعظم عقابٍ ما كان غير محسوس في القلب.
The greatest punishment is that which is unperceived—within the heart.
عقاب الله أعظم من أن تُدركه،
بل من عقابه أن يفتح عليك في الدنيا التي تُنسيك الآخرة،
Allah’s punishment is far greater than one can perceive;
among it is that He opens the doors of this world for you in a way that makes you forget the Hereafter,
ويفتح عليك في العلم الدنيوي
الذي يشغلك عن العلم الشرعي أو التفقه في دينك،
and opens for you worldly knowledge
that distracts you from sacred knowledge or from understanding your religion,
ويرزقك الكثير من الأموال
ولكن يحرمك لذة الطاعات والعبادات.
and grants you abundant wealth
yet deprives you of the sweetness of obedience and worship.
وهذا، وربي، من أعظم صور العقاب.
By my Lord, this is among the greatest forms of punishment.
فكم عاقبك وأنت لا تدري!!
How many times has He punished you while you were unaware!
احذروا العقاب غير المحسوس
Beware of the unperceived punishment.
ءانسكم الله بقربه
May Allah grant you intimacy in His nearness.
